Designing an off-grid power system can be daunting, given the array of products available on the market and necessary electrical expertise. Spending weeks or months evaluating options and wading through all the "budget" offerings is thrilling to some. Others want to learn more about solar, battery storage, and power equipment but seek the expertise of a pre-engineered, DIY solution that takes the guesswork out of properly sizing, installing, and configuring an off-grid power system for their home, cabin, or other property.
Drawing on our extensive experience in engineering custom off-grid solutions, Off-Grid Power Systems developed several robust and expandable pre-engineered kits that have been proven across many installations. Kits come in different sizes to meet the needs of property owners, and every kit can be easily expanded if future needs change.
All of our kits include detailed system drawings, batteries, bi-facial solar panels, charge controllers, inverters, and an internet-capable communication center for remote monitoring and control from anywhere in the world. Rental units, especially, benefit from remote monitoring and alerts, assuring a premium experience for rental customers.
All kits include:
- Detailed connection diagrams with wire, fuse, and circuit breaker sizing to take the guesswork out of building a safe, reliable energy storage system. Each kit comes with two copies of the drawing set printed on 24" x 36" wide paper with a professional HP wide-format printer.
- A list of recommended supplies and where to buy them, using the same top quality materials we use in our professional installations. Cutting corners is not in our DNA.
- Configuration settings for all components to eliminate guesswork and saves hours of searching the Internet for answers
- 48V Victron Energy system with smartphone connectivity and Victron Remote Monitoring
- Touch panel control and dashboard display
- 3,280 to 16,400 watt bi-facial, ground mounted solar panel array including racking system
- Ground mount racking system that is easy to install with commonly available equipment from your local tool rental
- Single phase (120V) or split phase (120/240V) configurations with automatic load balancing
- 10 to 40kWh battery options with integrated heating systems to run your property off-grid with all the comforts of home
- Backup generator support with automatic start/stop for supported generators (generators not included)
Victron System
For the best off-grid power equipment, look no further than Victron Energy. They are the #1 provider - worldwide - of high-quality, durable, off-grid energy products. If Victron Energy is new to you, rest assured they are not new to the market. They are pioneers in the energy space for nearly 50 years.
This modular system integrates inverters, solar controllers, and batteries, while allowing for easy expansion of any part of the system. This is unlike the "budget" all-in-one units that require additions of entire units rather than individual components. And unlike those "budget" inverters, a Victron inverter can run your most demanding loads such as heat pumps, well pumps, and large power tools without overload.
The Cerbo GX acts as the central control and communication hub. With the GX Touch panel display, you can effortlessly monitor the entire system through an intuitive dashboard. Additionally, an internet connection allows for remote monitoring and configuration via Victron Remote Monitoring (VRM). Rest assured, that once installed, these systems will run for years without intervention, but remote monitoring provides peace of mind and opportunities to learn how renewable energy systems work over time.

Load Balancing
In systems with multiple inverters, uneven load distribution can lead to overloading a single inverter. For instance, connecting high-draw appliances like hair dryers may draw excessive current from one inverter, resulting in an overload, even if the overall system capacity is still adequate. The Victron Autotransformer provides split-phase output balancing, capable of equalizing up to a 32A difference between inverters. This ensures the system can effectively manage varying loads across branch circuits and eliminates the concern about balancing circuits in your main load center (breaker panel).
Solar Array
Each cabin kit features an array of 410 W bifacial panels. To simplify installation, each kit includes pre-assembled PV disconnect and protection boxes. The small kits come with a single combination box that incorporates a PV disconnect, lightning protection, and a disconnect switch. The medium and large kits include both an exterior disconnect box that includes surge arrestors for lightning protection and a separate interior disconnect box for convenience. All boxes utilize MC4 bulkhead connections for easy integration with the solar panels.
Ready Rack Solar Ground Mounts
The Ready Rack ground mount offers a simple, pre-engineered solution for installing solar panels on the ground. This system utilizes a concrete-free foundation with options for ground screws, helical screws, or ballast foundations.
Ground screws are ideal for firm, compacted soil with moderate rockiness, including soils with shale. However, shallow bedrock, sandy or loamy soils, mucks, bogs, or very rocky soils will require helical anchors or ballast foundations. Most soils in Ohio, Southern Michigan, Indiana, and Western Pennsylvania are generally suitable for ground screws.
If you have questions or concerns, or would like to discuss your specific soil conditions for a foundation recommendation, please contact us at 740.234.3434.
Energy Storage
All pre-engineered bundles include Pytes batteries to store solar energy for use at night or cloudy days. The Pytes V5° batteries feature a 51.2V 100Ah configuration and can be wired in parallel to offer capacity options of 10kWh, 20kWh, 40kWh, or higher. Equipped with an integrated battery management system (BMS), the Pytes V5° batteries also include a heating system that enables continued operation no matter the weather. The batteries communicate seamlessly with the Victron Energy system and have a 10-20 year lifespan. Additional batteries can be added to the system at the time of purchase or future upgrades. Please contact us for assistance in battery selection or adding additional battery capacity.

Delivery or Pick-up
If you live in Ohio or surrounding states, we encourage you to pick up your kit at our facility. Not only do we get to meet you, we can review the drawings with you in person and answer your specific questions on the spot. We also offer shipping anywhere in the continental United States. Due to the size and weight, shipping is sent via LTL freight with optional lift-gate service. Kits may arrive in multiple shipments to take advantage of lower drop-shipping rates when manufacturers have warehouses close to you.
Pick-up is no charge, and we'll even help you load everything into your truck, trailer, etc. Please note that the ground-mount racks come on 12' long pallets. Solar panels come on 6' or 7' long pallets. You will need a box truck or long trailer for local pickup.
